MultiView has officially kicked off the first leg of the “Good Company” tour by travelling to the Texas Panhandle to take an inside look at life on an Angus cattle farm with the help of 2 Bar Angus – a family-owned and operated business that is as much about business as it is about family.
Located just outside of Amarillo, 2 Bar Angus plays an integral part in the farming and ranching community of Hereford. Named after a type of cattle breed and known as the “Beef Capital of the World,” it’s not shocking that not only is Hereford No. 1 in the world for beef production, but they’ve also nabbed the No. 4 slot on Texas’ dairy production ranking.
The story of 2 Bar Angus began with Steve and Laura Knoll, whose initial entrepreneurial steps began in the seedstock business but eventually led them to invest in Angus. Although they may
use new tools and technologies, their philosophy on selling the best Angus genetics as possible continues to be the driving force behind their business.
“We’re trying to produce a more efficient gut with high fertility and function in their environment,” Steve Knoll told ABC affiliate KVII-TV during an interview about their appearance on the Web series. “We want a high quality eating experience when it’s all finished.”
From conception to birth, the Knoll family took the “Good Company” crew on an eye-opening experience into daily life on a cattle ranch. For the Knoll family, they’ve got producing great Angus cattle down to a science – literally. Constant data collection, lineage research and DNA testing are all key factors in finding the maximum potential within their herd. Whether they use artificial insemination or embryo transfer, no procedure goes without detailed statistical research into the strengths and weaknesses of each cow and bull.
Over the years their herd and business have grown, and as they’ve added more members to their family, their workforce has grown too. Every member of the Knoll family – including all four of their children – lends a helping hand at the ranch. Plowing, herding, vaccinating; the list of duties that this family takes on together goes on and on.
“What makes this company so great is the family element,” said “Good Company” director, Daniel Maitland. “This business is run entirely by the six members of the Knoll family. They care so deeply about each other and so deeply about their work.”
MultiView and the “Good Company” crew would like to thank the Knoll family for opening up their home and business as well as the town of Hereford.
Don’t forget to follow along with the “Good Company” crew at goodcoshow.com as they continue their road trip around the country as they dive further into the world of unique American businesses.
